Sacred Dialogue, Glenn Aparicio Parry VOICE OF THE EARTH Cross-Cultural Dialogue Circle October 28th & 29th, 2017

Sacred Dialogue

I am back in New Mexico and preparing to do another dialogue circle on Climate change with Taos Institute of Noetic Sciences tomorrow, Wednesday, the 25th at 11am, followed by an exciting weekend of dialogue and ceremony with Mamo Calixto of the Columbian Aruhaco tribe beginning Saturday, October 28th at 9am. This may be the last Newsletter for a while, as I will then be signing off to write the book Sacred Politics for the rest of the autumn and winter.

In case someone does not know about the Mamos (sacred priests) of Columbia, I want to share a bit of their story. The Mamos of the Kogi and Arhuaco tribes of Columbia are chosen at birth to remain in a cave for nine years while they develop powers of extrasensory perception and become the seers/healers for their tribe. I have had the blessing to meet several Mamos in the past couple of years, and they all have blown me away with the depth of their caring and compassion for Mother Earth and all her creatures (including humans). I was happy to learn that, for the Mamos, dialogue is a very important part of their life practice. At various crossroads, they retreat to the cave for further dialogue. I feel incredibly blessed to co-facilitate a dialogue with Calixto, who lives in this manner.

For me, too, dialogue is sacred. I feel this even more than ever in this age of partisan political rancor. Dialogue is not just a symbol; it is a necessity. Dialogue affords us a great opportunity for people to practice becoming of one mind – to observe one’s thoughts while seeing another person open their mouth and say exactly what you were thinking -- to experientially realize we are all one.

Ever since returning from Menla, where I co-facilitated a workshop with Susan Kaiulani Stanton, I have been counting my blessings. To facilitate dialogue circles and dream groups is a great privilege. To collaborate with Susan Kaiulani Stanton on these is a double blessing; and to have such wonderful participants I was thrice blessed. Susan and I will be doing several more workshops together: in Taos next June, and in Menla (Phoenicia, NY) again in either late September or late October.

I hope to see you in Taos or Santa Fe in the next few days.

Blessings,

Glenn

VOICE OF THE EARTH Cross-Cultural Dialogue Circle

October 28th & 29th, 2017 (Introductory Session, October 26th)
at the Museum of Indian Arts and Culture, Santa Fe
Mamo Calixto Suarez Villafane

Our world has changed. Much of what we knew and believed no longer makes sense or works in the world that is now emerging. What can we do? Do we need a new worldview?

Here is an opportunity to do just that.

Voice of the Earth is led by two outstanding dialogue leaders, - one Indigenous, one a local well-known author.  Mamo Calixto Suarez Villafane, an elder (Mamo) from the Sierra in Colombia and Glenn Aparicio Parry, PhD, the author of the seminal book “Original Thinking’, inspired by dialogue circles between Indigenous elders and Western scientists.

Dialogue circles are places where we can foster deep listening, explore assumptions, perspectives and beliefs that no longer serve us, and allow the space for fresh and original insights to emerge.

Like every species on this earth, we must abide by the rules of the ecosystem that sustains us —these laws and feedback cycles have not been suspended on our behalf. We have become aware of our vulnerability as a species, increasingly so with each new extreme weather event, whose sheer force and frequency are beyond the established scales. And yet, we hold on to the fallacy of unlimited growth in a finite system.

Worldviews, after all, are beliefs that were learned and chosen.

Can we hear in a New Way? Can we Learn in a New Way?
