The Melech Collection presents STEVEN COGLE Untitled (Indian Chief),2015 | Acrylic, oilstick on canvas 85 1/2 x 72 in
THE MELECH COLLECTION
SCOPE is pleased to collaborate with The Melech Collection, launched by six-time NBA All-Star Amar’e Stoudemire.
Stoudemire will curate a 40 foot installation as a highlight of SCOPE Miami Beach’s Special Programs. With a sincere interest in nurturing the careers of emerging artists, Stoudemire has commissioned emerging Brooklyn artist, Steven Cogle, to create a site-specific work centered upon the contemporary artist’s role in creating afuture history.
Citing African influences in his work, Cogle attributes much of his style to the environment in which he grew up: East New York. From this Brooklyn vantage point, Cogle interprets “sacred stories” throughout the African Diaspora, approaching his subject matter as “tribal Africa crossed with urban blight”.
Additionally, Stoudemire will conceptualize and lead a lively panel discussion in SCOPE’s Atrium, moderated by Sotheby’s Contemporary Art SVP and former Andy Warhol Museum curator, Eric Shiner.

FELIPE PANTONE Chromadynamic Dimensional
SCOPE has invited Felipe Pantone to create a site-specific installation for the Atrium of its Miami Beach Pavilion. Pantone will hand-paint hundreds of conduits to create a three-dimensional gradient computer glitch. Pantone approaches this work as a humble attempt to combine imagery from the 21st century with the structural innovations established by the Venezuelan master Soto in the 60's. Juxtaposed against a serene ocean backdrop,Chromadynamica Dimensionalwill greet visitors upon entry, and set the tone for a dynamic 17th edition of SCOPE Miami Beach.
Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Felipe Pantone began his art career in Southeast Spain with graffiti art. From then on he was drawn to the art world and settled in the city of Valencia, Spain where he further developed his skills and distinctive avant-garde graffiti style. After establishing himself as an innovator within the graffiti world, with a career spanning the past decade, Felipe Pantone has abandoned letterforms, embracing abstraction, and drawing influence from various disciplines such as kinetic and op art. Felipe Pantone has anchored himself as one to watch within the contemporary field.
Presented byunaffiliate.us, a Column Health Initiative Curated by Colin Beatty and Craig Smith
SCOPE is delighted to be working with Column Health’s Craft Guild to de-stigmatize addiction and raise awareness of treatment and recovery. For SCOPE Miami Beach 2017, Column Health has collaborated with New York-based artist, Tom Fruin, to create the exhibition "unaffiliate.us" that presents a selection of works spanning Fruin's critically-acclaimed career and addresses shared issues of de-stigmatizing addiction.
The "unaffiliate.us" exhibition will include Fruin’s Quilt series composed of drug bags and other found detritus the artist collected throughout his exploration of New York City. A craft typically considered ‘women’s work’, quilting is oftentimes a deliberate narrative, and in Fruin’s case, a New York story that strengthened his optimism. Also on view is Fruin’s ICON series, an extension of the quilted drug bags., with a re-imagined narrative. Tom Fruin’s eponymous houses are water towers and internally lit, sculptural mosaics that function as beacons of color and light. These “Icons” transform mundane landscapes into vibrant expressions of humanity.
